The Mouse Hired an Empire

deadmau5 leaves CAA for IAG — the flex isn’t the festival slot, it’s the software, the series, the IP stack.

Joel Zimmerman did not announce a single. He announced a wider desk. Variety’s exclusive: deadmau5 signs with Independent Artist Group for all areas — music, film, TV, digital, gaming, technology, IP. Previously CAA. Manager Dean Wilson and attorney Dina LaPolt stay. The tour dates are still dates. That isn’t the story.

IAG’s line, carried across the trades: once-in-a-generation at the intersection of music, technology, content, and ownership. Zimmerman’s quote keeps landing on the same word. Ownership. File it next to the March 2025 Create Music Group deal — mau5trap and deadmau5 catalogs, masters and publishing, more than $55 million in the reputable write-ups — the moment the set stopped being only a set.

The expansion list isn’t abstract: Coffee Run relaunch, Oberhasli Games, Auto/Pilot live-performance software. Mau5trap’s roster history still reads like a receipt — Skrillex, Rezz, Noisia, Feed Me, i_o — proof he’s been building rooms around other people’s names for years. Now the room is the product.

Old status symbol in this lane: closing slot, main stage. New one: do you own the tool the night runs on, the series the chat watches between dates, the stack that outlives the poster. The mouse hired an empire. The festival still gets the mouse. The stack is the point.
