Riscape: Heads Down

posted by cj archer

The Athens producer making peak-time house that still has a tune — packed rooms, late nights, people who came to stay.

There’s a kind of house record that only makes sense when the room is actually full. Not festival full. Club full. Ceiling sweating, booth loud, nobody on their phone because the bass is doing the talking. That’s the job. Riscape does it.

Riscape on the flyer. Ioannis Rigas off it. Athens — piano at Chalandri’s National Conservatory, then SAE, then Grey Studios, then the bit that counts: nights that don’t clap between tracks. He started putting records out in 2020 and they have the combination most peak-time misses: they go off, and they still have a tune in them. You leave with it. You put it on again when you get in.

Mystery Freedom heard him first, because they usually do. 2021. Unity. Two x S. The 12"s that live in a bag, not on a bedroom wall. This year he remixed Alphed Le Cornett and JARR Head’s “Synth Magic” and it sat at Beatport No. 1 on the Trance (Main Floor) Top 100 New Releases chart. Dates will follow. Dates don’t explain a packed floor at three in the morning. Off the desk he runs Riscape Reality Radio — whatever he’s into that week, plus his own. If you wanted the Wikipedia page you could have googled.

House music’s whole trick was always the late night. Sweaty clubs. Long records. People who came to stay. Most of this year’s pile is a riser, a drop, some bloke with a headset pointing at the lights. His don’t bother. Piano in the blood, four-to-the-floor in the room, still going when security start the shuffle and the night bus is doing the afters. I’ve been playing it loud enough that the stairwell has opinions.

We signed him in ’26. Play it. See who sits down.
